“Enhancing the lives of vulnerable children” |

|
For many years, the Bunzl Corporation has supported the work of the Care For Kids Foundation through their Vendor Appreciation Day golf outing. The Bunzl Corporation decided after last years outing to rename the day to reflect their commitment to the foundation in support of changing the lives of vulnerable children in our communities.

Excerpts from a conversation with Bill Goetz, General Manager of Bunzl, Indianapolis. How did Bunzl begin their relationship with the Care For Kids Foundation? “The way our relationship started was from a conversation that I was having with one of our sales reps on a golf course. He had just played in one of his customers golf outings and they had picked a charity to sponsor for their outing and asked me if we had ever considered picking a charity as a beneficiary for our golf outing, and it really hit me that we could and we should!! Rob Fulford (CFK board member) was our General Manager at the time and he looked in to different charities and chose the Care For Kids Foundation. I believe we started with the Foundation in 1997. I came back from working at our Corporate office in 2002 as the General Manager for our Indianapolis branch as we continued our relationship with the Care For Kids Foundation. I believe in 2003, I happened to run into Mike Thierwechter, past president, Care For Kids Foundation, at dinner one night and we started talking about additional possibilities beyond the Guardian Home now that the initial renovation project was complete. We started discussing the Hearts Remembered program at our outing and received a tremendous amount of interest in this cause from our vendors. The more involved I got with the Foundation, the more I realized that the name of our outing needed to bring attention to the Foundation and not to Bunzl. The Foundation is more than a "feel good” cause, because it supports programs that work towards children that truly need help and guidance and I guess that is where it has hit me the most--being able to help a child that is in need and making their lives a little better.” What does it mean for Bunzl to be involved with the Care For Kids Foundation? “It means that a large, international company that used to get it's vendors together for a fun filled day of golf, now does this with the focus being on the Care For Kids Foundation and what we are doing for vulnerable children. The vendors see that the money that they put up for the outing is going to a great cause and they do not hesitate to get involved. I can not tell you how many vendors have come up to me and thanked me for supporting the Care For Kids Foundation and what more could they do to help! We are at the stage with this outing that will take us to the next level in our commitment to serving the needs of vulnerable children and it is extremely exciting to be associated with the Care For Kids Foundation.” |
